The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) is the first maritime board in India, it regulates, manages, and develops all non-major ports in Gujarat, which has the country’s longest coastline of 1,600 km. GMB pioneered port privatization and introduced models like BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) for Greenfield ports, making Gujarat a leader in port-led development. Today, GMB oversees 44 minor ports, handling over 31% of India’s total maritime cargo traffic and 67% of non-major port traffic. It has facilitated world-class infrastructure, LNG terminals, and ship recycling at Alang, contributing significantly to Gujarat’s economy and India’s maritime growth.
